EGGS
We are passionate about healthy and happy hens that produce nutritious, beautiful eggs that nourish you and your family.
Our hens are free-range and cover a solid 5-acre area with their freedom. They have access to high quality pasture that we seed with beneficial grains for egg layers and we do supplement with a grain feed as needed.
Our laying flock consists of Ameraucanas, Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, and our own Callywood Farm crosses. We hatch our own layers each Spring. Every three years, we reintroduce pure bred heritage stock. This ensures high production and docile behavior.
We collect eggs every day, our eggs are very neat and clean, which helps reduce times needed to wash eggs. We rarely need to wash, but when we do we use only water. Our eggs are some times refrigerated, especially during Spring when we have so many! But if you are interested in un-refrigerated eggs, just let us know that’s your preference! MEAT CHICKENS
Pastured chicken is cited as having significantly more omega-3 fatty acids, less saturated fat, more vitamin A, and has a far superior flavor to its grocery store counterpart.
We raise Freedom Ranger chickens which are a great middle ground between the not-especially-meaty heritage breeds that we use for laying hens and the cross breeds that are grown in industrial confinement operations. They are slower growing and bred to be raised on pasture while maintaining the traditional look and feel of a broiler chicken. Click HERE to learn more about Freedom Rangers.
Our Freedom Rangers are raised on the pasture from ~3 weeks old until finish. They live in a large portable house at night and are let out everyday to forage in the pasture within their large electric fence net. This allows them the dietary benefits of spending time on pasture while keeping them safe from predators. We move the whole fence/pen setup weekly to ensure they get fresh pasture and let the fertilized area rest for a couple weeks before we rotate them back around. Pastured chicken has been cited as having significantly more omega-3 fatty acids, less saturated fat, more vitamin A, and has a far superior flavor to its grocery store counterpart. And that’s not even mentioning the great life they live at Callywood Farms!
We follow strict Animal Approved Welfare (AWA) standards that ensure ample room, high quality living conditions, and research-based protocols from brith to end of life.
PIGS
We are raising a heritage breed, Gloucestershire Old Spot, pigs with access to shade, pasture, root crops, and all the acorns they can eat.
We are raising a couple of heritage breeds, Gloucestershire Old Spot, commonly referred to as Old Spots and Meishans. For local folks, we worked with Roundabout Livestock and Corva Bella Farm to start our pigs here.
Our pigs are raised in a large fenced area (about 4 acres). They have access to shade, pasture, root crops, and all the acorns they can eat. We do supplement with grain feed. You can check out our price list here.
